Being completely oblivious to the feeling this image is trying to represents female privilege so well.
[Note from B] Not sure how I feel about this post, because it leaves a lot to the imagination. The cluelessness of that comment is quite unempathetic to the feeling I’m sure some guys get, but at the same time, that feeling is difficult to pin point in such a context-less environment. This image is based on the assumption, that purely based on appearance, you are less creepy looking than the guy behind you. What if you aren’t? What if you don’t see how you come off to other people? Or what if the way you were sitting took up more space? What if she had a friend closer to the other guy, so she sat there?
I don’t think it’s reasonable to take offence in this situation without more context.
there is more than enough context? the point is that the guy in the front had SOME shred of self confidence left and thought he was less creepy looking than the guy behind him, at least. and the girl sitting down next to the creepy guy makes him feel like he actually does come off as even creepier than that guy.
the girl in the comment has no idea how this guy feels because she’s never had this experience, this is a fine example of female privilege.
the interesting thing about that is that it raises a lot of questions,
- how likely are women to claim that they were abused simply as a way to get some sympathy in court when their dead ex-spouse / partner isn’t there to defend himself.
- why are women being tried as men?
- is the rate of women committing murder going down or are less and less women just being charged with murder?

Claire Nathan, the woman who was barred by Air New Zealand from working as an air hostess because of a ta moko on her forearm, says she no longer wants to work for the airline.
Air NZ refused to hire her because of her traditional ta moko. Yet they use the Maori symbol for its company logo.
And that, in a nutshell, is what it’s like to be indigenous.
So this image is acceptable to take out of its natural context to use as their trademarked company logo, literally claiming ownership of it, devoid of any of the cultural or symbolic meaning that made it significant. But it’s not acceptable to be worn in its original context by members of the culture from which it originated. One couldn’t ask for a more stark example of cultural appropriation.
I’m going to save this away to pull out whenever someone asks (or whenever I need to remind my own privileged ass) what cultural appropriation is or why it’s condescending, demeaning, and just in general a bad thing.
this is quite bad, although i’m wondering if the company just had strict policies on tattoos? airline companies tend to be pretty strict on presentation and stuff and i’m guessing if it was any tattoo about anything they probably wouldn’t have hired her?
it’s pretty hypocritical though
The joke itself is fucking awful regardless of whether or not the picture is of consenting bondage stuff. Especially since it's in a context where most of the audience (including those thinking the joke is hilarious and liking it/whatever) don't know that she's a model.

yeah thats pretty much the point i was trying to make? it LOOKS really convincing like if its porn and she consented to it then thats fine but taken out of context and put with a joke it does look like it’s really a picture of a girl being raped and that other girl just seemed to think that because the knots were professionally tied that that means she COULDNT POSSIBLY HAVE ACTUALLY BEEN RAPED
like yes, it turns out in this case she consented and thats great but how do you know that about every picture? knot tying isnt an exclusive club, you can look it up on the internet and learn how to do it. any rapist could learn how to do it
and if she was actually raped its not very nice to sit here laughing at her because the “joke is funny”
everyone can have their own sense of humour but laughing directly at something bad that happened to someone is just rude esp considering they were laughing before idnf found the source of the picture sigh

So I just found this looking through Facebook and ARE PEOPLE SERIOUS?! Like what about this is funny?? Ugh I just hate people!
What bothers me is she looks genuinely terrified. Doesn’t appear to be a joke at all….
that’s both funny and hot as shit. It’s kink and she consented. Google “shibari”. Those ties are very neat and can’t be done on a nonconsenting body (they take a while to tie). I don’t recall the names but that’s a basic harness I’ve tied before. Actually… I’ve had this whole tie done on me before… Yes, she’s got the knees too, yup.
So. Yeah. She’s playing along and yes, it’s very hot. The caption is funny and ironic. It’s funny BECAUSE rape is bad and wrong and etc. the contrast is what makes it funny; humor is the unexpected.
so there, we good? Good.
a good point but if she was drugged and tied up then she wouldn’t have consented and she wouldn’t have struggled while she was being tied up so we really have no idea at the end of the day
are you fucking serious
Those are shibari ties. There’s only ONE thing they’re used for.
They’re designed to be safe and non-harmful.
fucking stupid.
UH im not agreeing or disagreeing with you jfc no need to get hostile. i’m just pointing out the one-sidedness of your argument.
it’s not like rapists don’t know how to tie knots or have no way of finding out how to do things like this, it’s not exclusive to some safe sex club. NEWSFLASH: people use harmless things in bad ways!! you have absolutely no way of knowing whether or not this girl was consensually tied up or not so don’t go getting all bent out of shape on me.
After following the watermark, I’ve discovered she is a model from a bondage porn site bound and gagged by a professional rigger. She was 18 years or older at the time she consented to such activity and the records are maintained on file if you’re interested.
But keep digging this hole, it’s cute.
yeah sorry, point me to where i said “YOURE DEFINITELY WRONG” im saying REGARDLESS of whether or not you found the source of this picture, it does look very convincing and there was still a chance that it was a legitimate picture of a girl being raped.
you said “NO THERE’S NO WAY THAT SHE WAS RAPED I KNOW THOSE KNOTS” and i said just because you know those knots doesn’t mean that she wasn’t raped. yes the source of the image telling you that she was consenting proves that she wasn’t raped but that doesn’t disprove my original fucking argument, that just because you recognise the knots doesn’t mean a rapist wouldn’t be able to learn how to tie them you giant moron.
don’t attack someone who has been following and supporting you for a long time because you don’t want to hear criticisms about your god damn argument that had holes in it because now you’ve completely lost that support, ugh.
one thing ive learnt since starting my bachelors in criminology and criminal justice is that feminism is just a theory among many other social theories on why crime happens and to whom it happens and all evidence supporting feminism can be used to support feminism’s opposing theories

this is the most ridiculous thing I’ve come across in a long time.
I understand the daily hardships that so many people have in a world ruled by white males.
I understand that sometimes this can make it feel as if all white males are the enemy (especially for those who fight for equality).
but posts like this need to stop.
you are not advancing anybodies rights.
you are not promoting anybodies equality.
this is not activism.
this is hate-mongering.

Thanks for the contribution :)
I’ve lost track, am I even allowed an opinion these days? Whatever. How about this radical idea: Let’s treat each other equally, and then we’ll all be equal? All this mindless mud-slinging achieves nothing and only serves to demonstrate how true objectives of those involved (notably NOT equality).

You guys are good at this! :)
this isnt okay and you need to fuckin stop.

Thanks!
these are golden

I just about peed myself when I read that lmao
crying
……… This is why I don’t trust white people who say they’re anti-racist..

hey look, it works both ways, how cute
